oh guys, yesterday there was some good stuff.
the kids wanted boiled eggs.
late.
after dinner.
i made some.
we all sat down.
and skyler wanted to peel my egg for me.
after his.
i (focusing on efficiency) said, "we could do it at the same time!"
and he replied, "that's okay. i like to be a gentlemen."
heart fall to the floor.
stop breathing.
kairos.
and so, i let him peel my egg.
he proudly handed me a yolk at the end (that pesky white attatching to the shell!).
i ate it, happily.
i asked where he got that idea.
hold on people.
my little pony.
the cartoon.
he's been watching it lately (VERY different from his rule of only watcthing "fighting" cartoons). i think he started because bronwyn had watched it.
whatever. i was thrilled.
and i had been following a lot of shannon hale's great posts about the ratios of girls/boys in cartoons and how girls will read books with boys as main characters, but boys won't.
and i can't describe the feeling to have this five year old want to be a gentlemen--instead of blow something up (still plenty of that going on. . .).
you see, i've been a little more sensitive after sandy hook. when i took stock of our media/toys for our boys, especially skyler. all fighting stuff. potential to destroy stuff.
so, i asked him if he's want any my little pony toys to play with (he love to play with figures).
he said, "sure. if my friends don't see."
