winter solstice 12.21.12. a celebration of coming light. filled with: friendship. womanhood. positive intention. raw pomegranate cheesecakes. warm vegetable soup and bread. fox furs. coyote skins. feathers. vision boards. sparklers. bell and feather head wreaths.
2013 words of the year: light, whisper, revolution, and today.
a blissfully wonderful night. certainly a fitting kick off for my 2013 word: LIGHT. now, each day will be a little bit longer, more filled with light.
i am grateful for these "soul sisters" friendship this year. there has been something so compeltely inspiring, filling, healing, and soul-fiding in these seasonalcelebrations.
i was crazy excited to host the summer solstice, but also a bit nervous. i'm certainly glad i took that small brave step this year. that first celebration cracked me open. inspired me to write. to create a mudbird. to celebrate my feathers.
to close the celebration, after a bit of deliberation, we decided on the word "huzzah!" and shouted it as we threw birdseed over my deck. planting seeds in winter. celebrating the dreams and seeds we already had within us.
the next morning, i couldn't clear away the magazine clippings, empty glasses, and centerpiece. i was still reveling in the beauty of the previous night. i noticed my favorite bluebirds on my deck, against the winter white.
it wasn't until much later, i remembered we had thrown out birdseed.
and the birds had come.
and a HUGE thank you to tim! there were a few hiccups and the celebration almost fell through a couple of times. and when i came to him with the sad news that it would be cancelled and olivia needed a babysitter he said without a beat, "well, i'll watch them." i might have mentioned there was a baby in that mix (a VERY cute one, i will now add) and he said, "i can handle a baby." and so, olivia's adorable kids were able to bond with mine for um, several hours. this was my BEST christmas present this year. he always knows just what to get me. and this, was just what i needed.
